Too Late ! by Brian Dodd

Too Late                           by Brian Dodd

He waved his arms and shook the bars
Outside of heaven’s gate.
He cried out loud and screamed and yelled
When he heard the words “Too late !”

“Too late. Too late, It cannot be
I was called before my time!”
Your time ,” replied the voice within
Your time ? No! No!  it’s mine !”

“ You had your chance. You had your way.
You have deserved your fate.
My book of life is  closed now
I’m sorry you’re too late.”

“ The way you chose was one of sin
And this has brought you sorrow.
The way to me is  easy,
But the entrance hall is narrow.”

“ That’s not fair, I never sinned ,
I never hurt a flea.
I helped old ladies cross the road
So Listen Lord, I plea.”

“You call me Lord and that is right,
And  so have  very many,
But until their lips and hearts agree
Not one is saved, not any! “

“  I sang  in the church choir, Lord,
Attended every week.”
“ I know dear sinner . You speak the truth
But my presence  did not seek.”

“ You went to church. You said your prayers
All of this is true.
But  that itself won’t save you
Your punishment is due!”

“ It  isn’t piety I want
Or trying to be  good,
But faith in my son,  Jesus,
And sprinkling with his blood!”

“ You’re time has come for reckoning
To understand your fate.
You cannot have a second chance
To live, You are too late !”
